I don’t know if you feel the same but for me, dress shopping has been challenging this year. Brands have gone way over the top in the frill department for my liking. But then I spotted the Baukjen Ivy dress. A perfect blend of a feminine summer dress that’s not too over the top. A grown-up on-trend dress that fits my age bracket perfectly.
I love to wear dresses through the summer months. a dress is a one-piece no brainer. All you have to do is decide on accessories. Easy. But I have found the brand choices out there so much harder for my age bracket.
I love a floaty feminine number but this year I feel everything is so much more over the top. I’ve spoken about this often on my Youtube channel the past couple of months. I don’t want to look like Alice In Wonderland or a 58-year-old milkmaid! And a lot of you have felt the same apparently.
As soon as I spotted the Baukjen Ivy dress I felt it ticked all the boxes on my wish list. All the trends are within the dress but more toned down. I love the colour, and Light blue is always a favourite summer colour for me. I like how fresh this looks. The small frill on the collar. The lightly puffed sleeve and the tiered hem is perfect.
The Ivy dress is loose-fitting, made with organic cotton poplin it feels lovely on and will feel good to wear in the higher temperatures if we ever get any! Little buttons added to the sleeves and the tiny frill on the collar. It’s all the little details that make the Baukjen Ivy dress special.
I’ve chosen to belt my Ivy dress. The rope Bottegga dupe from HM has been a delightful new addition to my wardrobe. The natural nature of the belt works with everything. The buckle is gold on the other side but I prefer to wear it back to front. Also available in black, it sells out so fast but HM re-stock all the time. I’m really pleased with it.
I kept accessories natural for pairing with the Baukjen Ivy dress
All the accessories are kept simple using natural materials. The raffia bag is old. From Eastex. I like that it’s made from raffia but stained in blue. A little different to the natural colour.
Espadrilles have become my uniform for this time of year. I love them for comfort, perfect height and again they go well with any summer dress, trousers or skirt. I’ve just purchased a bargain pair again from New Look in a more natural shade with gold thread.
And nearly at the end of the post, I realise that I haven’t mentioned the pockets! What is it that gives us so much joy about pockets being added to our clothes? I don’t know why but it always pleases me.

Oh Laurie, I’m a sucker for frills and must be one of the few who doesn’t mind an over the top filled dress! This one is a good compromise though and I do love that belt too. And yes, what a winning point to have pockets!

It is a beautiful dress, Laurie! I love the blue print and the rope belt is so cute. I have trouble styling some of these frilly dresses as well. I really like them but when I put them on, I just don’t feel like myself. This one is perfect though and it suits you very well! You’re right Laurie, getting it right with dresses is difficult. I find as I get older ‘pretty’ dresses make me look older still! Think you’ve got it spot on here, very light and summery.
As always pastels and neutrals look gorgeous on you, the dress , shoes ,bag are lovely .One tiny winge
although the belt is smart I feel it’s a tad to heavy for the delicate dress . Maybe a blue ribbon tie belt or no belt so it’s loose and flowing.
