These photos were taken a week or so ago, where is our May weather? As I write this I’m layered in a t-shirt, jumper and jeans! In London on a quick visit, I wore my latest favourite find. This HM shirt that I bought for shooting a clothing haul over on my YouTube. It was love instantly.
The simplest item, a plain linen blend shirt and I have worn it three different ways already. I created this comfortable look so easily. The shirt is longer than average and on this occasion just left it untucked and loosely belted at the waist. The sleeves rolled up. Simple.
I heard ( I can’t remember which stylist) by a stylist that if you roll your sleeves the most flattering length is just below your elbow to line up with your waist. I’ve practised this for years.
Each summer, there’s something about HM I could shop all summer long and nowhere else!
During the filming of the hm haul. I had ordered a pair of trousers to go with the shirt. The ones I’m wearing above are from Reiss and cost me a hefty £99.00. When I filmed the HM ones you can barely tell the difference. Even in quality. If you’d like to take a look at the film, you will see what I mean. I discuss the differences I found hard to find.
The HM ones are £19.99 and I’ve listed them below. Even the fit is the same. If I hadn’t already purchased the Reiss ones I would have definitely kept the ones from HM
The simplest way to add some interest to such a plain pairing of clothing is accessories. Colour and texture. I swapped my gold Nordgreen strap for a tan leather strap.
The reversible belt from Baukjen is worn literally on a daily basis ( the 15% discount code is still running Use VM15) A basket bag for texture. This is the second year running for this bag. I love how much stuff I can fit into it. You can just see the pashmina sticking out the top, just in case, it’s chilly.
Cream sandals with gold embellishment elevate the look a little. I don’t think they’ve been on my feet since this day! I did mange to get them on my feet earlier in April for the twinset post. I’ve had good wear out of the Valentino dupes, and will wear them a lot through this summer hopefully.
My hair is literrally just bunched up into a scruchie. Leaving for London at five in the morning to avoid traffic, there was no way I was getting up and spending time on my hair any earlier than nessacery!
One thing I was very grateful for was a replacement earring sent to me from Claudia Bradby. I lost one of them taking a face mask off. Has anything like this happened to you? I’m so happy to be able to wear my favourite earrings again. I wear these Helix earrings more or less daily.
Update! I have a 15% discount code for Claudia Bradby. Use LAURIE15

Adding more neutrals to my capsule wardrobe
I’m really pleased with the shirt, it’s such an easy to wear piece. And surprisingly because of the linen mix it hasn’t creased to badly. Even sitting in the car for an hour and a half getting to London.
I did size down for the shirt. In the film I’m wearing the next size up and felt it was too large. As I also stated in the film HM items seem to be very genorous this year. I’m wearing a size small and you can see it’s plenty roomy.
An absolute bargain priced at £17.99 the shirt comes in other colours. I think I’m going to get it in the blue as well. It will be great with jeans.
It’s lovely to be able to head into London whenever we want now after lockdown. This road is just around the corner from where we used to live and one of my first ever blog photos was taken in this exsact spot. Where did the time go?It feels like yesterday!
The building behind me used to be offices and we were surprised to see it has now been converted into flats. London never stands still. I have an appointment with a brand in the city next week and I’m really excited about it. Normality is a little closer and it feels like eternity since I was in my favourite place to be. I look forward to telling all about it.

I love this chic neutral look! You look fabulous! Hope you are having a great week!
I’ve never really looked at H&M so thanks for the intro! Looking so elegant in your trademark stylish neutrals. I lost a white gold earring this week – down the shower. I was gutted. Thanks for linking Laurie x

I always find H&M so much better through the summer months rather than winter. I see so many things at this time of year. I don’t really need to shop anywhere else! xx
I love that you find such wonderful pieces (and quality too) at H&M. I am a huge believe that you don’t always get what you pay for.
Great look Laurie,

Yes. If you search there are some good gems there!
This looks like a wonderfully versatile shirt, Laurie! And I really like the monochromatic styling of it. I never would have thought to belt a look like this, but I love it! Fabulous styling!

Once again, you are in your element, Laurie rocking the natural colours with elegance and ease. Interesting tip about the roll-up sleeves, shall give it a try. Looking forward to read about your brand appointment

It works Anna. I always wear my sleeves at this length. I’d love to hear what you think about this little trick
You always look stunning in these delightful neutrals, Laurie! Love HM for freshening up my look and it’s fun to see what we can look forward to when spring hits here later this year!

Thank you. I’ve been wearing the shirt non-stop! I just ordered it in the blue xx
Love your bag, Laura, big enough to hold the essentials#anythinggoes@-kasrendennis

Thanks Laura. The bag is into its second year and I use it on a near-daily basis during the warmer months. Basket bags go with everything, don’t they! xx
Fab look on you. I don’t wear linen, I find it stretches too easily as the day goes on. I lost a Kate Spade earring, the back stayed on buy the front fell off, really weird.
Thanks for linking with #pocolo and hope to see you back again soon

Thanks, Suzanne. I was so happy to get that replacement earring! They’re my favourites. xx
I used to shop at H&M a lot, and you’re right, they usually do a brilliant Summer collection.
I love how you belted the shirt, and that’s a great tip about the sleeves. You really do neutrals like no one else, Laurie! Now all we need is some proper May weather! Brr, hasn’t it been cold? xxx

Thanks so much, Ann. Yes. Some good weather please! xx
I haven’t shopped H and M in a long while. This neutral look is very inspiring: I need to shop my closet and come up with a couple outfit. I did wear a similar palette last Sunday with my white dress and light khaki jacket and sandals.

I’d like to see that Mireille. Khaki is a colour I need more of in my wardrobe. I’m hoping to find some good pieces this year. I think Khaki works with so much xx
Love a bit of H & M too, although not too fond of any of the dresses atm, hope they will get more in of styles I prefer. Thanks for sharing you lovely shirt. Jacqui x

I’m totally with you about the HM dresses Jacqui. Too many frills and flounces. Who wants to look like a 58-year-old milk maid! xx
Love the outfit on you, Laurie! And I couldn’t agree more about H&M — I literally could spend hours wandering around in there. I actually (finally) got the chance to visit an actual H&M shop the other day but I was quite disappointed because I was shopping for colour. I only wanted to buy items in bright colours and they had almost nothing lol! Apart from a pair of lilac mom jeans that made me look like a hot air balloon LOL!! Oh well.
Hugs

I’m just about to go have a try on of the HM jeans Suzy. I’ve been thinking about buying some from there for some time. Mom jeans are so hit and miss aren’t they? Hence the reason I need to have a try on xx
I also lost one earring because of the mask. They were handmade, and the lady who made them, made a new one for me! Good tip about the sleeves and waist! Great blouse too!

That’s lovely isn’t it Nancy. I wonder how many people have had this happen? I was so pleased to get a replacement. I’ve started wearing a visor now. It’s so much better. xx
What a fab outfit Laurie. All my favourites, plus neutrals are my go to. Wishing the weather would warm up as it’s definitely time to ditch the woollens. xx

Thanks, Alison. Bring on the better weather! xx
