I’ve been very fortunate to be invited to a couple of interesting events in the last couple of weeks. I’ve headed into London a few times and I’m getting used to travelling. It doesn’t take long, sometimes less than an hour. Two of the events involved getting to chat with a couple of celebs. Get me!
After that, however, my days went quickly downhill! Walking the dogs, Beau clipped my knee running around at about twenty miles per hour. I couldn’t walk for two days. Then I caught the dreaded lurgy cold. It’s rife and the whole family have had it.
I keep escaping to my new little room (see the makeover here) for some peace and quiet away from the building site and builders. We’ve just started on our bedroom now and as I said on my Instagram stories it’s amazing how much time everything takes. Electrics, plastering, all the stuff no one really gets to see.
I do think though, that once the second bedroom is finished it will be a downhill struggle rather than uphill. The garden and the newly built shed is nearly finished and our garage full of stuff from the last address will move out of the living room into there. I can’t wait!
Celebs can be so down to earth – Chatting with Amanda Holden
I was kindly invited to an event held by Fenn Wright Manson a brand I have loved for years. I have a couple of outfits dating back to the nineties from them! I must share someday.
Amanda Holden was talking about her collaboration with Fenn Wright Manson. A gorgeous collection designed by Amanda that you can see here. I loved how Amanda styled what would be an evening dress for daytime, wearing a biker jacket over the top and black ankle boots. And yes, she is really beautiful in real life. I love keeping an eye on many a celebs style but Amanda’s style is one I really admire
So easy to chat with, Amanda even asked what brand I was wearing. Of course, my new Baukjen outfit has been on repeat quite a bit. Catch the outfit post here. We talked about the collection and how she came up with ideas for styling. I particularly liked her idea of the way a sleeveless dress was cut at the armpits, so you don’t get that hanging bit of flesh. I hate that don’t you?
Talking health and social taboo’s with Emma Kenny
Another event invite to one of my favourite London landmarks – the Bluebird in Kings Road Chelsea. This time on behalf of Tepe. I have worked alongside Tepe before and you can catch the post here. I’m still using my dental sticks but have now changed to the ones I was introduced to at the event.
I prefer the Easy picks They just seem to fit between my teeth better. I have noticed that the dark staining I get in between my teeth from drinking copious amounts of tea is kept at bay longer using these little sticks.
A huge long dining table beautifully laid out in a private room looked very inviting and I was sat next to the host of the event Emma Kenny The Tv psychologist from ITV’s This Morning. A We chatted away all evening and Emma was lovely. She was very interested in how blogging worked so I wasn’t stuck for conversation!
Emma gave a chat about social taboo’s. If someone smiled at you from the opposite seat on the train with spinach between their teeth would you tell them? Stuff like that.
I remember a time in a packed ladies loo’s in Selfridges when the Chanel shop assistant walked out of the toilet with her skirt tucked into her knickers. As she walked out, not one person stopped to tell her. I went towards her just before she left the toilets to tell her. Imagine if she had walked through the store like that!
I left the event with a goodie bag that had everything I need for good oral/teeth hygiene and it was a lovely evening. Tepe is not at all expensive and you can find everything you need here.
A new dress for the event
I wore a gorgeous new dress gifted from Closet London. Long-sleeved, silky with a high neck and tied at the back. It’s a really lovely dress. If you have any parties coming up and fancy something a little different to wear from the usual high-street do take a look at what Closet London has to offer.
New in Beauty
I’ve been trialling a few new items from Ark Skincare. A new range developed for us over 50’s I’m really liking the triple action exfoliator. I rarely find a good exfoliator in department stores. I go around checking for texture when I’m looking to buy one and I hate it if they feel too scratchy.
Very impressed with this one. It’s not overly priced and feels lovely to use. Just right to remove dead skin cells and promote new. Did you know the older we get the longer it takes to shed old skin a get new? I’m nearly 57, so I need help getting rid of that dead layer of skin and coax new skin to form!
You could cleanse and rinse off without any need to moisturise after with this. but I prefer to cleanse again after and apply my regular cream. The Age Defy Brightening cleanser contains vitamin C so that’s handy to help reduce pigmentation. All of the Ark Skincare is vegan-friendly too
At last Trinny London has launched a collection of makeup brushes
I’m such a huge fan of the Trinny London brand but as I have stated before, I prefer to apply makeup with brushes and not my fingers. Of course, Trinny has come up with the perfect solution and a genius idea of making one set of brushes – magnetic into one long strip called the T-Kit
I’m absolutely over the moon with these and they are so handbag friendly too. What a great gift these would make for Christmas? Find the on the T-Kit on the Trinny London site here
Cute earrings from Claudia Brady
Pearl earrings are a huge trend right now, aren’t they? I’m so happy with these Siren hoops with pearls. Silver with gold plating, I’ve been wearing these non-stop. Again, these would make a great gift for Christmas. Anyone who loves pearls, Claudia’s site has so much to offer.
That’s it from me this week. I’m reaching out to you, my dear readers for any ideas? Is there anything you would like to see me feature here on the blog? Let me know.

What a life you lead! But I love how you bring in the reality too, like the hazards of dog walking!
Tepe has been a game changer so for me, and my mouth! I now use three different types, including the little yellow ones you show, and my oral hygiene hasn’t been this good in years!I

Thanks Nancy. I’m really enjoying the closet London brand at the moment. Well worth a look xx
Love your update posts Laurie. Amanda looks great in that outfit. I agree, the overhang with sleeveless tops can put me off buying something! I always use Tepe and I love the way they sell some brushes with a little travel container now. And finally I was put off Trinny’s range by the brush (lack of) situ – the brushes look a great design, ideal for travelling. Have a great weekend!
