That first couple of days on holiday when you have to get your kit off and into the swimsuits? I’m still not overly confident. It’s the age thing I think. I don’t want to appear mutton!
I was approached by For Luna, a swimsuit brand that designs retro swimsuits. Actually, they’re more than that. I would say confidence builders too.
The designs on offer are fantastic for anyone shy of showing off their body on the beach or holiday resort and the styles are flattering in all the right places. I don’t like that high leg look that starts at the waistline on some swimsuits. All the ones I tried on in the shops I thought just looked ridiculous on me! I could imagine whispers of “look at that old girl trying to look twenty!”
One thing I will say – For Luna Swimsuits definitely have that sucky in magic!
I’m not really into the retro trend but I am in for swimsuits that enhance the figure and boost your confidence. I’ve chosen this Red Gingham Bella Donna swimsuit and I loved how it sucked me in at all the right places. The material quality is fantastic and the 20% Spandex seems to do the job. Let me share the info on this suit.
- Made in the USA
- Ester Williams swimsuit
- Sturdy under bust support band
- Soft shaped foam cups
- Side stays
- No wires
- Supports up to an F cup
- Halter straps (tie)
- 80% polyester / 20% spandex
- Front lycra lined
- Skirted front, full brief to the back
- Ruched body and gathered bust
- SPF50+ protection
I like the fact that my boobs are not hanging out and the side supports in the bust of the suit is a very clever part of the design. The skirt part of the suit is where the magic is, giving double support in the tummy area and the legs are well, finishing at the tops of my legs and not at my waistline!
Just Chilling!
So I’m very happy with this one piece. I did intend on taking a few shots at the poolside but it was always so busy! The other half wasn’t keen on playing David Bailey and I didn’t want to draw attention, so I took these snaps on the balcony.
You may remember my post from last year about confidence boosting wearing swimsuits. The photos were taken in a London park!
How do you feel about swimwear in our age category?
So I’m intrigued to know how you feel about body confidence and wearing swimsuits if you’re in my age category? Would you wear a bikini? I was very lucky to be left with a stretch mark free tummy after having three children but I’m just not confident enough for a bikini. Maybe I’m just a bit prim and proper!
For Luna did nearly entice me with a high waisted type swimsuit though. There are lots of different styles but my heart was with the Gingham. I like the cute little bag that the swimsuit belongs in too.
Here are some other great For Luna swimsuits
I like the print on The Sailor Jeri
And the Palm Springs Retro Swimsuit
Do pop over and have a browse. The swimsuits are available in plus sizes too which is a bonus. I was really pleased with my swimsuit and would like to thank For Luna for boosting my confidence!

These swim suits are GORGEOUS! I much prefer a swimming costume to a bikini – I think they are much more flattering and I like the understatedness of them.
And someone loved this post so much, they added it to the BlogCrush linky this week to give it some extra exposure! Congratulations! Feel free to collect your “I’ve been featured” blog badge π #blogcrush

Laurie, I think this is one of the most beautiful and likeable post I have seen in a long time. You looking really amazing in this swimmsuit. I am writing a post about body positivity for tomorrow and am going to include a link to your post! Sending hugs and kisses dear! Just to let you know I am thinking of you…xo Sabina

Thank you so much Sabina! Funny thing is, I wasn’t sure I was happy with the post! It’s turned out to be one of my most popular! xx
Wow, don’t you look stunning in this cossie Laurie! I love the style and colour you chose – it’s perfect for your colouring and so flattering too. I’ve bought a couple of retro style swimsuits recently and do love them for their feminine appeal rather than sex appeal. And yes, like you I’m free of stretch marks, but every year say it’s my last for wearing a bikini – I think this year may well be all about the one piece for me.
Have a great weekend!

I knew you would like this retro print, Anna! However, you’re body is way fitter than mine! I’m sure you look great in a bikini and there are some lovely retro ones on the For Luna website too. xx
They look great – i bought a new swimming costume earlier this year too and agree some of the styles just don’t work for me either. I found one that I would never have considered if those styles did work though, but hey ho! Thanks for sharing with #PoCoLo

This swimsuit is positively divine! You look like a pinup model, Laurie. The gingham print is too cute and so on trend. It’s great to see a suit that is figure flattering and doesn’t show everything. Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday!

Thank you so much, Jennie. Glad you like it! xx
What adorable swimsuits and you look great in the red gingham. I used to have a real vintage suite like that but can’t squeeze into it anymore. I’m sure the spandex helps. I’m more tummy heavy so I need more of a baby doll style. LOL
Author
Thank you so much, Rebecca. The tummy support on this suit is excellent but on the website, there are skirted swimsuits too. I nearly went for one of those. Super cute! Thanks for stopping by xx
This is the cutest and very flattering.

Hi, Laurie
This swimsuit was an excellent choice, as it looks very flattering on you!
I have been sticking to one-piece suits the last few years, thinking I should be covering up at this age. But on my first trip to the beach this summer, I was with my husband and dressed for him. I pulled out my Victoriaβs Secret leopard-print bikini. Iβve lost weight in the past year, and I felt smashing! In fact, I considered taking a photo for Instagram but felt shy that it would look too sexy to display myself to the world like that. So I took a photo of the tree I was lying under, instead. π Also, as I have a long torso and short legs, I need high-cut legs on my swimsuits. If they are cut across the top of the leg, they visually shorten my legs.
Well, back to the swimming pool in my maillots since itβs not just hubby and me.

I admire your confidence to wear Angie! You must take a photo next time! I just don’t feel comfortable in the high legs. xx
You look fabulous Laurie! I love this suit, the style is classic, retro and fun! Sounds like you enjoy it too. I have a blue gingham suit I bought last year from Target. I wear a bikini and a one piece, it depends on my mood.
thanks for linking!

Thank you Jess. I bet the blue gingham looks great on you! xx
Oh I love that suit on you. I just did a post on swimwear and the rouched look was definitely my favorite. I love how flattering it is and that it kind of camouflages any problem areas. I’ll have to check this brand out. <3 Jamie

These swimsuits are really cute, but alas, this is a style that I can never wear. Being hippy and short, the bottom of the swimsuit leg would cut me at my widest point and make my legs look shorter. I do love the idea of the tummy tucking and boob support so will take a look all the same.

I lack confidence when it comes to swimwear, but these look great #AnythingGoes
Author
Thank you, Claire! I’m the same depending on the style. I have to feel confident to be confident if that makes sense! xx
Laurie, this swim suit is so fantastic! I love the red gingham and the retro vibe. I am like you and do not like the higher cut legs on swim wear and the retro style provides the perfect amount of modesty that is still flattering. And I would totally wear a two piece but only if the bottom had a high waist and low cut legs! So more like a one piece in coverage! I have quit worrying about what I look like in a swim suit anyway. I find swim suits that flatter me and then I wear them confidently. My body is not perfect nor will it ever be, so I better just love it and enjoy it for what it is! This post is a featured favorite on my #SpreadTheKindness Link Up today! Thanks so much for sharing it!

I love a good retro suit. I had one like this that was navy polka dots and LOVED it so much. You look amazing for summer!

Thank you so much Ruth. there’s a navy polka dot one on the website funnily enough! Thanks for stopping by xx
This swimsuit is super fab on you! I love the retro design.
I often wear bikinis for snorkelling but since I have on my rash guard all the time no one sees it.

Thank you Suzanne. I’m wondering what a rash guard is? xx
That is such a cute bathing suit! I try to wear mine as little as possible. LOL. I have yet to find one that is both flattering and comfortable. I’ll have to check them out.
Author
Oh you must! I couldn’t believe how clever this suit was! xx
I like these bathing suits. They do look like they would fit well and I haven’t seen these in the stores yet so definitely worth looking because I love to take my boys to the beach every summer but I am very picky about the bathing suits. I am bottom heavy and most swimsuits do not look good on me. These are worth a look:) #BloggerClubUK

Glad you like them, Michelle. xx
So they are made in the US but sold in the UK? Do they sell them in the US, because I’d love to try one. They are gorgeous suits. I love the palm print one too! The red gingham your wearing is gorgeous as well!
Author
Thanks Amy. I’m going to have to find out for you! I will let you know xx
This bathing suit is perfect! I relate to your philosophy, no stretch marks but not feeling the bikini anymore. I love a tankini though.
Author
Thank you! I love a tankini too, so long as the bottoms suck you in!
What a beautiful swimsuit I wanted something just like this last year when I went abroad. I will definitely be taking a look at their site. Thank you for sharing π #POCOLO

That is a very flattering swimsuit, you look great in it. I think that the 40s and 50s style retro swimwear are much more flattering on the whole than a lot of other styles. #pocolo

I agree, plus the added sucky in helps! xx
I love the checkered look. I think when you feel comfy in your suit you just feel better about yourself! #pocolo

Yes of course Tracy! So much more confident xx
What a gorgeous swimsuit and you look amazing! I am all for a good swimsuit these days as opposed to a two piece – that anchor designed suit is rather eye catching, love it! Sim x #PoCoLo

I have always been confident enough to put on a swimsuit despite my plus size figure. I wouldn’t go public in a bikini though. I love your pick, the gingham is gorgeous and you look amazing in it. I will definitely check them out for my next holiday. I actually got my last 2 from Bon Marche and they are the most perfect costumes I have owned for my size (20) #pocolo
Author
Girl after my own heart Tracey! I think the Bonmarche one’s are a great fit too xx
Well I blooming love this style, and you look bloody gorgeous Mrs! I really like the cut of these swimsuits, I will pop over for a look. I would never wear a bikini these days, but that is because I have gained weight over the last few years so dont feel confident to. If I had your figure I would go to Tesco’s in my bikini! Fabulous

Will be perfect for your holiday Kerry! xx

I love the swimsuit and you show it to perfection. I wear a bikini as I feel it suits me better, unless the swimsuit has a low back. Also it is good to get the sun on your tummy as it is the best place to make vit D. Seemingly!

You look incredible Laurie!! Love the retro swimsuit – it’s very chic xx
You look so chic and elegant in that gorgeous one piece,a lovely figure too. A one piece swimsuit on mature ladies is far more eye catching than a bikini, but again its a personal choice . A one piece for me and I am a trim petite over 60 but a bikini is a no no!
I had to chuckle at the lady who said she burnt her tummy , that happened to me in my forties and it blumming stung for days,so her choice of tankini was a wise one.All the swimsuits you have showed are so pretty and look very comfy and supportive without being fuddy daddy !
Take care,
Pamela from Wales x
You look absolutely amazing Laurie xxx
Laurie you look fab !
Love that swimsuit!
Iβm with you, I would never wear a bikini in public (although I do at my mums pool)
Itβs not about weight or size itβs just not my style !
See ya soon old gal

You look fabulous and that suit is so cute! – Amy
How brave of you! And you look damn good in your swimsuit! I still wear a bikini, but I hate my upper arme and tighs. They are really ugly. But I only wear a bikini in my back garden!πππ
I’m with Gail on this one Laurie, having just been away and seeing every other body shape I wore a bikini! I also had a tankini which worked well as I burnt my tummy! You look fabulous in this little number and it’s a winner in my eyes. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous swimsuit today Laurie. Jacqui Mummabstylish
what a stylish swimsuit. You are looking fabulous.
You look fantastic!
You look great in a cosi and spf 50 makes the suit a winner. Great colour and I really like the pattern.
This is a fantastic swimsuit! I love how it looks, the print is simply beautiful and the one piece is a favorite of mine. Looking good!

That swimsuit looks fab on you Laurie! Love the shape – it looks really comfortable and stylish!
You look fabulous Laurie, very pretty swimsuit. Every year I angst about swimsuit v bikini but when I’m actually on holiday I see women both older and bigger than me and enjoying themselves in bikinis. So I’m trying to care less and just go with the flow!
Well done, Laurie, looking gorgeous and thinking confident. Oh how i do aspire to being both! It’s a fabulous swimsuit and you’re selling the brand to me alright, in fact you had me at F cup! Hugs my lovely, hope you are well, x
