With all the decorating well under way and deliveries of furniture to our tiny London abode, you may have seen the progress a week or so ago? I was lucky enough to escape for a couple of days. My decorator is a good friend of ours and with the chance of dog sitters plus the fact that he could just crack on with the work, it made sense to make an escape.
I’ve always wanted to visit The Grand Hotel in Brighton. Many years ago I stayed in a hotel along the Brighton seafront and I remember walking past The Grand Hotel wishing that I was staying there.
I was super excited about visiting The Grand even though I was only staying for a couple of days. I wasn’t disappointed in any way shape or form I absolutely loved it. And if you’re ever going to Brighton for a stay I recommend that you take a look at staying at this stunning hotel
A huge lump of a building built in 1862 apparently it was the tallest of buildings at that time. We were actually on the seventh floor right at the top (and I don’t do lifts!) I did consider asking to change the room but once I saw it and the view, I loved it and decided to suffer the stairs instead. keep fit was what I kept telling myself!
On arrival, we were greeted by Paul a really friendly chap who carried our bags in from the car. Throughout our stay at The Grand, we discovered that Paul could tell you anything you needed to know, where to go, the best places and even the best places to park if visiting any of them.
First impressions of The Grand Hotel – Wow!
Friendly staff greeted us and the bell boys took our luggage to our room. A complimentary bottle of wine was given to welcome our stay, I thought that was a nice touch. I imediatley wanted to explore the whole of the hotel.
The arcitecture and plush surroundings were gorgeous. I was so happy that I booked the hotel after wanting to visit for so many years. It was everything I was expecting.
I took this shot from the fifth floor. I had two more floors to climb! Having said that, I never tired of looking at bits and pieces on each of the floors. There was seating on each of the landings and I did stop a couple of times to suck all that gorgeous architecture in.
I loved looking around the hotel sucking in all the arcitecture
Because we were staying on the top floor we had this beautiful glass dome roof on our landing. I decided this would be a great place for photos and make use of the light. You may have seen the Sequin dress that I wore?
So happy with our room!
The suite was large with two armchairs and a sofa plus a perfect seafront view, I bet it glorious in summer and way better than my January view but I was very happy none the less.
The room had everything that we needed for our two-day stay. All very well equipt with the necessities. It was so peaceful and relaxing. As I said in the post last week, all I wanted to do was take some good quality time out and be lazy. Dee wanted to go downstairs to the bar but I chose to just lounge and enjoy the room. I wanted to be fresh for a long day out the next day and explore Brighton.
Breakfast at The Grand
The breakfast service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I arrived to fill my belly early, I wanted to get a good shot of the breakfast room before it was full of people. I did think about visiting the Spa because they had some good January offers on but decided to get ready for a day out shopping instead.
The menu for breakfast was very good. Copious amounts of tea, just how I like it. Dee had a full English and I had poached eggs on toast. the staff were amazingly friendly and nothing was too much trouble. There’s nothing better than being made to feel special at any type of place you visit and the staff did just that.
There were beautiful settings in so many places in the hotel. I wished I had packed a larger suitcase for more photos but then I did have to think of giving the photographer a break I guess!
Shopping in Brighton
We walked through lots of the little lanes that Brighton is famous for. full of independent retailers stocking something a little different. Boutiques, Jewellers, interior and vintage clothing can be found.
Clothing couldn’t be further from my mind at the moment, it’s all about interiors and decorating for me. I relished on the idea of me being in Brighton while at home progress was taking place while I was there!
A meal at Jamie Olivers
We had a fabulous meal at Jamie Oliver’s restaurant. I really recommend it if you visit Brighton. The meal was delicious and I was surprised at how purse friendly all the meals were priced.
Of course, the time went so quickly while we were in Brighton. The hotel, shopping and relaxing time out ended way too quickly for my liking! But if you are ever going to Brighton for a stay, treat yourself to a stay at The Grand Hotel. I loved every minute of it.

OH wow; what a beautiful hotel! I love all those architectural details.
I have always fancied staying at this hotel and have fond memories of Brighton as my husband used to work at Glyndebourne and lived in Lewes but had so many friends in Brighton so have spent time with him and my parents there quite a lot. Really good and informative review. #AnythingGoes
What a beautiful hotel! My friend recently splurged on a weekend getaway to a luxury spa with her daughters. It’s good for us all to occasionally do something special for ourselves, big or small.

Thanks for this blow by blow account of The Grand – it looks wonderful and is now on my bucket list too. Living in the lap of luxury could easily become a habit, don’t you agree Laurie. I’ve just returned from the 5 star Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town and golly, how easily I adapted to that way of life!
Have a super week!
