Dating After 50? Introducing The Lumen App

I divorced in my forties and was very lucky to find love again. My soulmate, my friend, my rock. I’m lucky to have found love later in life.

I was approached by “Lumen” a dating app specifically designed for men and women over 50.

My first thought was ” why would I want to write about a dating app when I’m happily married?” But then I started to think about how there could be readers out there that are divorced, widowed or just have never found “THE ONE”.

Then I started to think about what would I do if I was on my own? Would I want to be on my own for the rest of my life? It could be a pretty daunting picture. Where to start?

There are so many dating apps! Look through your phone and you will see. Anyone that is of the younger generation today will be talking about a dating app of some sort. Whatever happened to going out and meeting someone? It’s almost like it’s unheard of!

Finding love later in life

I'm lucky to have found love in my late forties. Read my review about the Lumen App a new dating App

I don’t go out partying all the time and I wouldn’t be interested in clubbing anymore! You would most probably be able to count on one hand people over 50 in a nightclub! So where to start?

After reading about the Lumen App it makes a lot of sense. I’ve taken a good long look and read the reviews which are by the way, very good.

Here’s why I think this dating app is good for the over 50’s

  • One of the first things that strike a brownie point is that it’s aimed at us more mature singletons. Can you imagine using a dating app for all age groups? You could be searching for quite a while and be bombarded by lots of would be daters of the wrong age group.
  • Safety is also a high up there priority. This is what would worry me the most. You can just build friendships on the Lumen app and talk to people.
  • The target audience is a smaller 50 – 65

An app for the older generation sounds like an interesting idea. I like how the age parameters are set quite small too. A fab find and thank you for sharing with the #dreamteam xx

I met my husband at work and I’d known him for six years before we became an item…nobody can say I didn’t know what I was letting myself in for! I honestly don’t know if I could do online dating, I like to get to know someone very gradually. I have a male friend in his 50 who’s trying online dating (without success so far) so I’ll mention Lumen to him. Lovely photo of you two 🙂

I’m proud to say that I met my wonderful husband through a dating site! Admittedly I didn’t tell my children til we’d been married for a couple of years so at the time I was a little embarrassed about it. But I’m not a partygoer or club person and single men of a certain age didn’t exactly come delivered with the newspaper! Certainly need to exercise common sense in exactly the same way as you should wherever you meet someone new but after 10 years of happy marriage I’m a firm advocate of being proactive. Life is short carpe diem!

I’m happy that online dating is seen as so much more normal these days than it was ten or even five years ago. If it makes people happy- then why not?

I am married so I dont need this app, but I honestly don’t know what I would do if I were single. I met my hubby at an Outdoors Club. So, I would consider joining a club or something, I am kind of old fashioned in that regard too. I am not sure I would trust it. But that’s just me! I loved seeing the pic of you and your husband.
    thanks for linking!

This is a great idea. I’m in my mid 40s now with an uncertain future and the idea of jumping back into the dating game or signing up for some sort of dating site makes me want to just grab some ice cream, turn on the TV and buy a dog. Something like this might get me a bit more motivated #anythinggoes

I’m only in my 40’s and am enjoying my singledom but part of that reason is because I have dated (I tried an online dating two years ago and it failed miserably) and I’m just too picky, and old fashioned. I believe in meeting by chance, not the internet. Though I am glad that there are apps and dating sites for older people because the other dating sites and apps are just a joke. Too many people to sift through, not to mention all the bad apples you have to deal with on those other apps. #BloggerClubUK

I think I’m too fussy for finding anyone again by any method although you wouldn’t think I was fussy judging by my Mr Him aka redrelaxercat on IG ‘s staff.

It’s good that the target dating audience is a certain age although I have never tried a dating app. It’s the way people are meeting nowadays.

I know! Like skimming through a catalogue to find an outfit! Good for people of the mature age group though, even if you’re in your sixties you can find companionship xx

It’s a conundrum for sure, Laurie. How do you meet people as you get older. I met my husband at a speed dating event, but I could see myself using this if I were single.

One of the worst things for older people is loneliness, so this would be a great idea- even just to find a companion to share interests with would be a step in the right direction. Great post Laurie. xx

I’m glad there’s an app for the over 50s. If I was on the market, as such, I would definitely give it a try. Online dating is practically the only way to meet people nowadays. Thanks for joining the #WowOnWednesday linkup!

It is interesting to know there are ways to meet people out there Laurie and for people to find partners and love. When my hubby and I got together there wasn’t mobile phones or internet around much. ( gosh I sound old, ha!!).

It’s great to see you and Dee together on the blog, and what a happy shot to share with us.
I think dating apps are a much needed service as it does become so difficult to meet people the more we age. One has to be sensible and cautious, of course. Lumen sounds like a perfect platform for mature singletons (though I do wonder what I’d do being well over the 65 limit!).
Hugs and happy weekend to you and Dee, x.

I’m all good thanks for asking. Just emptied mums house and I have a sea of boxes in my tiny flat to sort out! xx

  23. November 30, 2018 / 12:19 am

How lovely to see you and Dee together, Laurie! It’d be lovely to see more of you two on your blog 🙂

I’ve often wondered what it’d be like to date people now – when Keith and I started going out texting was a new thing… how far we’ve come! I don’t poo-poo dating online or similar, several of my friends have met their dream partner through dating sites and apps, so it does work!!

  24. November 29, 2018 / 12:12 pm

I think it’s a fab idea for any singleton over 50. I’m happily married to my childhood sweetheart but if I wasn’t, I’d be tempted to give it a go (once I reached 50 that is!).

Thanks Suzy. I think it’s a great idea. Especially because it’s for our age group. There should be dating Apps aimed at each age group to make it easier xx

  25. November 29, 2018 / 7:46 am

Like you, Laurie, I’m very happy in my relationship therefore dating at my age isn’t something I’ve thought about. But, my son is 27 and yes, it seems that dating apps are indeed what people use nowadays. Going out and meeting strangers seems to be a thing of the past which is a bit sad, but maybe just a sign of the times, so this makes sense. I really hope I never have need to use an app like this, bu thanks for your recommendation anyway!

  26. November 28, 2018 / 7:52 am

I think the app is a great idea. The safety aspect would worry me the most too. Dating would terrify me on so many levels but maybe this app would be a help. How great to ‘meet’ your dear hubby! xx Maria

Thanks Maria. The safety side of it would be the key issue for me too. Is it because we are more mature that we worry more? I wonder if the younger generation worry? xx
